Salati
I named this piece after the Selati Game Reserve in South Africa, which is where I participated in the collaring of a real African Elephant matriarch. It is critical to monitor herds in order to protect them, manage them effectively and allow them to thrive - and tracking collars are an excellent way of doing that. Thanks to this collar, the movement patterns of her and her family group can be tracked, allowing for easier locating and identification of their critical habitats.
When I look at this painting of an elephant bull I remember how her skin felt under the scorching South African sun and the immense power of her breath on my hand. 50% of profits from sale of prints will be donated to Elephants Alive, a fantastic South African charity who are at the cutting edge of wild elephant research, and help protect these magnificent giants.
